Hike to the highest cow pasture of Val Venosta
Malga Upia - Lake Upia
The starting point of this excursion are the Glies farmsteads in the upper Val di Mazia. Behind the farms, a path leads through the woods along a very steep section. It opens up to a vista of the Upia valley. Following path n. 9, after about a 1 hour walk, you reach the Upia pasture, considered the highest cow pasture in Val Venosta (2,225 m). During the grazing season, 50 cows roam over 327 hectares. The cow’s milk is used for the production of butter and cheese. After a short break, go up to the idyllic positioned Lake Upia.
